TWO boys were badly hurt within 24 hours of each other after coming off their bikes on a steep slope at a city nature reserve.

One boy was left unconscious after his crash, and had to be anaesthetised by paramedics before being rushed by emergency ambulance to a paediatric major trauma centre.

His age has not been revealed, but it's believed he was younger than 13.

He suffered a head injury after coming down the slope 50 yards into the woods at Perry Wood Local Nature Reserve at around 3.30pm on Monday afternoon.

After this crash was revealed, another mum spoke to the Worcester News to tell us her son was also hurt in the same location, almost exactly 24 hours earlier.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the boy, aged 12, also came off his bike at the nature reserve, off Redfern Avenue, on Sunday afternoon at around 3.25pm.

Paramedic said he also suffered a "number of serious injuries" and was also taken by ambulance to Birmingham Children's hospital.

The current condition of either boy is not known.

In the wake of the crashes, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman stressed the importance of cyclists wearing helmets.

The spokesman said: "The boy (on Monday) suffered a head injury.

"After being assessed by the doctor, the decision was taken to anaesthetise the youngster before he was taken on blue lights by road to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

"While it is clearly a matter for the individual or their parent/guardian, our view is that a cycle helmet can help prevent injury and could have resulted in a different outcome in this case."
