COOL off this summer at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, with Ice Age activity sessions throughout the long holidays.

A spokesman said: “Come face to face with a Neanderthal, crawl inside our Ice Age shelter and meet Fluffy the Woolly Mammoth.

“With the long school holidays fast approaching, Ice Age at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum is the perfect place for families to cool off and hang out this summer. Celebrating half a million years of Worcestershire’s history, from the time our ancestors arrived until the end of the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago, the fun family exhibition is on now and runs until September 8.”

The spokesman added: “Ice Age has already received more than 3,000 visitors since opening in June and includes the oldest man-made artefact in the West Midlands, the bones of the last mammoth found in Northern Europe and the first geological map of Great Britain.

“Many of the objects in the exhibition come from Worcester Art Gallery and Museum’s own collections as it is the eighth oldest collecting museum in the country.”

There are special family drop-in days.

The spokesman said: “On August 2, families can make prehistoric pottery; on August 9 it is Cave Art Day where you can make your own piece of cave art and on August 23 families can create ice age costumes and adornment.”

Art Gallery and Museum Manager, Angie Bishop added: “Ice Age is the perfect place for families to escape to this summer.

“With plenty to do, lots to learn and free admission, we hope Worcester residents will come flocking in to meet Fluffy the Woolly Mammoth and to enjoy all the different activities that are on over the holidays!”

The Ice Age exhibition is part of Lost Landscapes; a joint project between Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service and Museums Worcestershire.

Ice Age is free and open Monday to Saturday, 10.30am to 4.30pm, until it closes in September. For more information: visit www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk
