A MAN has described overflowing bins near his flat as a 'health hazard'.

Worcester City Council has now apologised for failing to empty the communal bins in the alleyway next to Masala Lounge, in Broad Street, Worcester, on Thursday.

Peter Carruthers, aged 65, of Bridge Street, Worcester, said: "The bins are overflowing, it's disgusting the way it is.

"The weather has made it worse, it's a health hazard, insects are in there, vermin, rodents. Seagulls are ripping open the bags.

"There's a lot of debris around the bins.

"They were supposed to collect them yesterday. I've tried Worcester City Council, all I got was blocked phone calls."

Mr Carruthers added that he is unable to travel to the recycling plant because he does not have a car and cannot walk that far.

The resident said the bins serve around 20 flats, including his own.

A spokesman for Worcester City Council said: "We apologise for missing this bin on Thursday’s collection round. We will be emptying it this afternoon [Friday]."
