A MOTORIST was arrested for drink-driving after watching England’s World Cup victory over Colombia.

Reiss Brown, aged 20, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and handling a vehicle without insurance, when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Brown was driving a blue Skoda Octavia in Fern Road, Worcester, when the incident took place.

The court heard that he had been driving a friend home after watching the match.

Prosecutor Shafquat Reaz told the court that police arrived at the scene, where they found the blue Skoda on its roof after hitting the curb.

Mr Brown was then arrested and taken to the police station where he was breathalysed.

The test showed 82 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The limit is 35.

The court heard that Brown comes from an unsettled background and had previously been in foster care, but was now working and highly thought of by his employer.

The employer, Haven Nurseries in Bank Road, Little Witley, near Worcester, provided Brown with a caravan to live in on site so he could continue to work there despite losing his licence.

Brown was disqualified from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £30.

The court also offered Brown the chance to take a drink-drive course which, if completed before August 2019, will reduce his ban by 20 weeks.

The 20-year-old was fined £219 for drink driving and a further £219 for driving without insurance, making a total of £603.

He appeared at the magistrates court on Thursday, July 19.
