DRIVERS are facing delays across the county as several roads have been closed for maintenance work.

One of the road closures is forcing drivers to take a detour of more than five miles for a journey that is usually only a quarter of a mile.

Shoulton Lane in Hallow is closed until Sunday, August 5 while the installation of a storm drain is carried out. Emergency access will be maintained at all times but Hallow residents are now driving more than five miles via Lower Broadheath to access their local post office.

In Worcester, parts of Malvern Road and Sebright Avenue are closed for resurfacing works. The work is set to take 48 hours and is due to be completed today (Friday, July 27).

Residents living the street are still able to get out with their cars.

Posting on twitter, Worcestershire County Council highways, said: “Malvern Road, St John’s, Worcester closed (inbound towards city only) on Thursday and Friday for resurfacing.”

Diversion routes are in operation. Drivers must go via Camp Hill Road for Sebright Road and via Bromwich Road for Malvern Road.

In Bath Road and Timberdine Avenue, temporary traffic lights are in operation while works to repair damaged footway are completed.

The traffic lights will be there until Saturday, August 11. Newtown Road is closed for surface dressing works until Friday, August 3. A diversion is in operation via the B4638.

In Pershore, after months of delays, permanent lights are being installed on Station Road. The road is now closed at the junction with Wyre Road up to Pershore High School from Saturday July 21 to Thursday August 23 with traffic diverted along Wyre Road and Abbey View Road.

Workers are excavating an 80m trench and installing a 450mm pipe through the road, into an existing culvert for storm water.
