A DRUNK man admitted going on a tyre-slashing spree in Malvern Police Station's car park.

Matthew Cull caused more than £1,000 of damage to three police vehicles, which led to them being out of action.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said officers were in the station in the early hours of July 20 when they heard the tyres deflating.

Officers looked out of a window and saw Cull sitting between two of the cars, as another tyre deflated.

After being arrested police found that the 40-year-old, of Albert Road North, had damaged a total of six tyres.

Officers also found a Stanley knife on the ground.

Miss Lovegrove added that in the police interview Cull replied no comment to all the officer’s questions.

Sam Lamsdale, defending at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday, explained that Cull did not know why he slashed the tyres, and couldn’t remember what had happened.

Miss Lamsdale said: “He remembers watching football, drinking lager.

“He doesn’t remember having the knife, he doesn’t remember going into the station car park.

“He accepts what the officers have said.”

A probation service report found that Cull had mental health issues, and had previously been detained, but he had chosen to come off the medication he had been prescribed.

Magistrates gave Cull a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days to address his mental health issues.

He was also placed on a four-week curfew, and ordered to pay compensation of £1,200 to police, costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £85 – a total of £1,420.

Magistrates accepted an offer for Cull to pay this off at a rate of £5 a week due to his limited financial means.
