A KIND-HEARTED 11-year-old girl is set to cycle more than 20 miles from Cadbury World to Churchfields Farm Ice-Cream in honour of her grandad who is battling bowel cancer.

Abigail Johnson, of Wychbold, who is set to start at King Edward VI Five Ways School, Birmingham, in September, was inspired to complete the gruelling circuit in support of her 81-year-old grandad Iain Love, of Rushwick, Worcester, who loves ice-cream but cannot have any due to his current treatment for bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer.

Abigail will complete the ride with her mother Sophie on Tuesday, August 21, starting from Bournville at 9.30am.

They aim to arrive at Churchfields Farm Ice Cream in Salwarpe near Droitwich, at about 3pm, where they will be greeted by friends and family, including grandad Iain, who may be able to enjoy an ice-cream.

Abigail, a former student at St John's CE Middle Academy, Bromsgrove, is raising cash for Bowel Cancer UK and has almost reached her £500 target.

Her mother Sophie said: “The school set them a test over the holidays to do five challenges - one of the things is to do something for charity.

“She was thinking what she could do and was trying to figure out what to do that she enjoys doing and then she came up with the idea to go to Churchfields.

“At first we were looking for another ice-cream place but then we decided to go from Cadbury’s.

“I think it will be about 20 miles or so and she has never done that distance before.”

Abigail said: “I am doing it because my Gramps loves ice-cream and it is a nice ride.

“I really hope we raise lots of money."

Posting on her fundraising page, she said: "My grandad has been affected by bowel cancer, which has led to secondary liver cancer. Two of his favourite foods are chocolate and ice cream. Due to his treatment though, he is not allowed to eat ice cream, so we thought we'd have some for him."

Just over two-weeks ago, Abigail took part in a short practice cycle ride to Churchfields Farm Ice Cream.

She will present her five challenge, including the charity cycle ride, to her class in September.
