A £123,000 scheme to bring 'free' Wi-Fi to the city centre has been approved.
The scheme will cover most of the city centre with Foregate Street, the Hive, Lowesmoor and Cathedral Square acting as a rough boundary.
A breakdown of the cost would mean the city council would spend £54,469 to purchase and install the system and £69,000 to maintain it over a three-year contract.
Councillors were pleased to hear the potential in the future for the scheme to expand upon the current area towards the Commandery and the Cathedral.
Councillor Roger Knight said: "I made the mistake of going onto the Worcester News website to read the comments and the public really didn't seem to be in support of this idea.
"We have really got to sell it to the public and say why it is good thing.
"I'm 100 per cent in support of this."
Cllr Pat Agar said: "I think it is a good idea that we include Foregate Street because it will include people that step right off the train. I am also pleased that there is an opportunity to expand it further."
Worcester City Council and Worcester BID hopes the scheme will be a huge boost to business and tourism to the city.
