AN investigation has been launched after a man and woman in a helicopter crash landed in a field in Naunton Beauchamp, Upton Snodsbury, Worcestershire.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at 1.54pm on Wednesday, August 1.

The woman was taken to hospital with back and stomach pain while the man suffered only minor injuries.

Both were able to get out of the helicopter before paramedics arrived.

Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) confirmed it was investigating the crash remotely.

A spokesman from AAIB said: “A report of an accident to a light aircraft, with no fatal or life threatening injuries to the pilot or passengers, may be completed following a brief questionnaire that the pilot returns to us.”

They said it would take about three months to compile and publish a report with its findings.

West Mercia Police said it was assisting the AAIB “where relevant.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service, who sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to the scene, said the pair were ‘incredibly lucky.’

A service spokesman said: “On our arrival, the two occupants, a man and a woman, had managed to get themselves out and were sitting away from the helicopter.

“The woman was treated for back and abdominal pain, given pain relief and transported to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by land ambulance.

“The man suffered minor bumps and bruises in the incident and was discharged at the scene.

“Given the incident had the potential for a far more serious outcome, it is pleasing that both patients have been incredibly lucky to walk away relatively unhurt.”
