THE family of a man who died in a motorway crash have described him as a 'devoted husband and loving father'.

Aidan Martin Walsh, aged 52, lost his life in the crash on the M5 northbound, near Droitwich, on Monday.

The crash, which involved Mr Walsh's Transit Van and two lorries, took place near a slip road at junction five.

His family said: "Although in such horrifying circumstances, it's difficult to remember Aidan in any way other than a devoted husband and loving father.

"He was an immensely proud father to his two boys, Shay and Sean and a dependable and much loved son, brother and uncle.

"He came to England in the early 90's leaving his beloved Dublin and a successful international table tennis career representing Ireland to help bring up his nieces and nephews following the also untimely death of their father.

"This summed up Aidan's selfless attitude and strong moral character. The family have truly lost their rock.

"He built himself a life over here and married Jayne, the love of his life, who at the time of meeting her was an end of life carer for his sister Nuala.

"Aidan and Jayne had 20 wonderful years married and although tragically cut short, it is difficult to be anything other than thankful for each and every day they spent together.

"The courage and support his two children have shown to his mother in this last awful week is a testimony to the man. His influence and personality truly lives on in his boys.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank people for the many wonderful messages we have received from our friends.

"It truly shows how far and wide this great man was truly loved as well as how he touched many people's hearts.

"He will be fondly remembered by them and our family for his great sense of humour and wonderful personality.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to urge anyone who can help police with their enquiries to come forward."

Mr Walsh, from Bedworth, near Nuneaton, Warwickshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash took place at around 3.10pm and the other vehicles' occupants received treatment for minor injuries.

Any witnesses can call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 0456S of 30 July.
