A MALVERN woman was looking for support as she prepared to visit Uganda with the charity Voluntary Service Overseas, a year ago today.

Hannah Kettles, of Oak Crescent, was aiming to raise £800 last year to make the trip possible, and had already raised some money with a sponsored attempt to live on £5 a day. And on Monday, August 21, 2017 Miss Kettles took on a sponsored walks on the Malvern Hills of 12km, the distance that some poor people in Uganda have to walk to fetch water each day.

Miss Kettles said when interviewed last year:

“As well as sponsorship, I would be more than appreciative for people to join me if they fancy a challenge. “I am also going to be doing a bake sale in my work place towards the end of the month, in which all donations go to justgiving. com/Hannah-Marie95.”

Miss Kettles, who had just graduated from university and had begun working for a charity, said:

“While I am away, I will be missing my 22nd birthday, and my graduation ceremony, but I could not miss an opportunity like this!

“I will be in a team of people running a start-up project, which could be in health, education or livelihood. “While I am there I will be living with a host family, and immersing myself in their culture, lifestyle and community."

Miss Kettles said:

“I like to make a difference to people, supporting them to achieve a better quality of life, so I thought my skills and outlook could be used by those much less fortunate, in many ways, than ourselves.”
