The Courtyard is delighted to announce the cast for The Goal, a Courtyard production in partnership with Hereford Football Club.

Set in 1970s Hereford, The Goal relives the story of Ronnie Radford’s notorious 35-yard goal scored at The Meadow End from the perspective of six ball boys; Chris, Bob, Dan, Yorkie, Twig (Phillip) and Brian.

Joining the cast of The Goal is James Holmes of Miranda fame. James’ extensive list of television credits includes appearances in Peep Show, Phone Shop, The Catherine Tate Show and The Office and has also established an illustrious stage career with performances in Romeo and Juliet, Lady in the Van and The Importance of Being Earnest to name but a few. James will be taking on the part of Bob in The Goal, a Hereford born and raised, fastidious lad who takes his responsibilities as a Hereford United ball boy incredibly seriously.

Returning to Hereford for The Goal is Kate Powell who has previously performed in Courtyard productions, Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel. Kate will be playing kind and stoical teenager, Danielle “Dan” Beech alongside Tom Bevan (Holby City) in the role of Chris, Ewan Goddard (Doctors) in the role of Twig, Matthew Booth (Emmerdale) as Yorkie and Charlie Quirke (Birds of a Feather) in the role of Brian.

Although predominantly taking on the roles of the ball boys, the cast of six will also be portraying a host of other characters in this bittersweet comedy that celebrates one of the most monumental seasons in Hereford’s history.

Chief Executive and Artistic Director of The Courtyard, Ian Archer, who is also directing The Goal, says of the casting: “I am thrilled to welcome six fabulous actors to Hereford for the world premiere of The Goal. Casting the company for The Goal has been a wonderful experience and every character has an individual significance to the play. The cast are coming to The Courtyard with distinguished acting careers through stage and screen and I am looking forward to working with them on this unique and very special production.”

The Goal will be in The Courtyard’s Main House from Monday 1 – Saturday 13 October. To book tickets, or for more information contact the Box Office on 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
