FRIENDS and family of a young man who was ‘seriously injured’ after an attack in the city, have raised almost £1,000 to help his family.

Jake Holmes, of Worcester, remains in a serious condition at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, following the incident on Saturday night in Lowesmoor.

Family friend Caroline Merrell set up the fundraising page to help pay for parents Tina and Mark’s transport and expenses.

Writing on the page, which has dozens of messages of support from relatives and friends, she said: “Jake Holmes was involved in an attack.

“It has left him with a fractured skull, bleeding to the brain and possible damage to his cochlear implants.

“He is currently in an induced coma in hospital in Birmingham. The prognosis is not yet known.

“His dad was in France and has had to pay £1,000 to fly home to be at his side and left his vehicle there.

“Other expenses are daily travel and accommodation costs of £50 a night for Mark.

“It is mounting up and we want to try and ease the financial impact.

“We are trying to raise some money to help with travel expenses and support our friends at this traumatic time, any donation is welcome starting from £1. Many thanks for your support.”

Two men arrested following the incident, which occurred around 9pm, have been released.

A 17-year-old male has been released from custody with no further action to be taken, while a 37-year-old is on police bail and has not been charged at this time, police have confirmed.

An eye witness described a fight between Mr Holmes and another man, believed to be his partner, which left the former bleeding from the ear after hitting his head on a kerb.

Mum Tina Holmes wrote on Facebook that her son is suffering from a fractured skull and bleeding to his brain.

A fundraiser with entertainment from Chalky Martin is being held at the Swan Inn, Barbourne, on Sunday, September 2.
