SIR – As usual I was interested to read David Barlow’s contribution to the Brexit debate.

He rather berates Mr Ellis and me for having voted like thousands of others for Brexit.

He asks us did we honestly foresee that “over two years later we would be in the pathetic shambles and dire chaos now blighting our national life and our

national economy?

Moreover whose fault is this”?

Our country’s future depends on the skill of our negotiators. I believe that Prime Minister May made a grave error in calling an unexpected election.

It worsened the prospects of her own party. Many saw it as a sign of weakness and it certainly undermined her own position. I am not alone in expecting her not to be in charge either of negotiations or the Conservative Party for very much longer.

As a Brexiteer I am not apprehensive about Brexit.

The people have spoken quite clearly (despite having to ignore the usual scaremongering and unforgivable stirrings of for example, ex-leader, Mr A Blair,

with accompaniment from fellow stirrers, Mr P Mandelson, Mr R Branson).

In good faith, we have to trust and support the skills and determination of those left with the difficult task of negotiating with those in Brussels who by no

means have the best deal for Britain as their main priority.

Alongside all this we need to be watchful of Mr Putin’s and other leaders’ activities.

We cannot possibly know their motives.

WENDY HANDS,

Upton-upon-Severn
