THE National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company believes it has the perfect answer for Brexit blues, whether one is a Brexiteer or a Remainer.

A run of Gilbert and Sullivan classics will come to Malvern Theatres from September 25 to September 29. Hurrah!

A spokesman said: “With all this Brexiting depressing the world it is good to have some quintessential English phenomena delighting the world! And what could be more British than any of the thirteen Gilbert and Sullivan operas which have set the standard for musical theatre from Broadway to the West End for 125 years?

“Preserving the tradition of the original D’Oyly Carte Opera Company is the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company which this year celebrates its 25th year as the resident professional company for the world famous International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival prior to hitting the road for a tour around the country featuring six brand-new productions for its 2018 season.”

Shows will include The Pirates of Penzance, and a dramatic and updated Ruddigore, directed by Irish dream team – Vivien Coates and choreographer Mary McDonagh – the pair behind last year’s five star winning production of Princess Ida.

There will also be a new production of Iolanthe; and The Sorcerer directed by John Savournin “promises a fresh look at this rarely performed gem”.

Other highlights include Trial by Jury and the Sullivan-Grundy piece, Haddon Hall.
