OPERA Worcester will be singing at the city's very own Last Night of the Proms to celebrate the life of noted musician Ian Pattison.

Mr Pattison was a well-known and highly respected part of the music scene in Worcester.

As well as being devoted to choral music, he was also a very fine trumpet player and had a fine tenor voice.

For years he played in local orchestras and was the regular trumpet player in the orchestras for the former Great Witley Operatic Society and in Worcester and Tenbury operatic shows, eventually becoming musical director at Tenbury.

The concert also features the Magdalene Orchestra and is in aid of the St George’s Church Organ Restoration Fund.

Mr Pattison was a dedicated churchwarden at St George's Church, in Barbourne, before his death last year.

Opera Worcester has its origins in Great Witley. Established in 1952, it attracts singers from all over Worcestershire and from as far afield as Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Wales. Its aim is to bring together singers of all ages to perform.

The group's repertoire is varied and now includes grand opera, as well as musicals and light opera. It holds an annual production each Spring and performs concerts in the summer to raise money for local charities.

The concert is on Saturday, September 22, at St George’s Church, Barbourne, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £12, Students £8 and under 16s free. They are available on the door or on 01905 28045. For more information on Opera Worcester contact patriciahead@btinternet.com or caroline.causier@gmail.com.
