ANDY Fairweather Low’s career really is something to marvel at, especially for its duration and variety.

The one-time teen sensation front man of Amen Corner, who hit No.1 in 1969 with (If Paradise Is) Half As Nice, is more successful than ever; despite the public at large not necessarily being aware of it.

But more will be revealed at a gig in Worcester.

A spokesman said: “The 60s saw Amen Corner clock up hit after pop hit with songs such as Bend Me Shape Me, Hello Suzy, and the chart-topping (If Paradise is) Half As Nice. When the group split in 1969, most of the band reformed as Fairweather, but they managed only one hit; Natural Sinner. “The solo career that followed for Andy brought plenty of chart success but little financial reward.”

Andy said: “I did my first solo album Spider Jiving and by the time I made my third one I was still paying for that first one” But times were about to change.

Andy had picked up his guitar and started making some notable contributions to other people’s records, and having played on The Who’s It’s Hard album, he suddenly found himself in-demand as the number one guitarist to the stars.

Since the early days Andy has gone on to work with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Roger Waters, Van Morrison and hundreds more, and has played at some of the most important concerts ever staged – The Concert for George in memory of George Harrison at the Royal Albert Hall to name but one.

The spokesman added: “His career has undoubtedly been the stuff of rock ‘n’ roll dreams. But perhaps it was inevitable that one day he would be tempted to return to the studio in his own right.

“Following a successful solo path, with a string of solo projects released since 2007, Andy has been setting the live circuit alight with his band The Low Riders and has now augmented the band with the addition of The Hi Riders, making for a riotously good live show, with a remarkable front man.” The date at the Huntington Hall is September 22.
