Carnegie Medal Winner 2007!
I'd been kicked out of two boarding schools and the last thing I wanted was to be here, on the East Anglian coast, in a third.
But without St Oswald's I would not have discovered the fisherman's hut with its roaring fire, it's striped blankets, its sea monster stew.
Without St Oswald's I would not have met the boy with the beautiful eyes, the flickering half smile and no past.
Without St Oswald's I would not have met Finn.
And without Finn there would be no story.
Shall we begin?
REVIEW
by Orla Goulbourne, age 10
Published by Puffin books, ISBN: 978-0141383439, hardback, RRP £10.99
A story that tells of a boy that goes to a boarding school by the beach. It seems that this school will be the same as any other but that’s before he meets the boy in the hut on the beach, the boy whose birth was never registered, the boy who’s name is Finn…
I found this book interesting and it kept me sat on the sofa reading for ages, never tearing my eyes away from the pages. I found it especially good because I love books written in the first person. I’d heard that Meg Rosoff was a good author and I had high expectations. This book flew over my expectations like a bird taking flight and I would gladly read it again.
