GIRLS got to grips with boys' toys during some full throttle motor mayhem to raise cash for charity.

More than 100 women hurtled around in Didicars, HGVs, dumper trucks, ambulances, tractors, double decker buses and JCBs for the Marie Curie Ladies' Driving Challenge at Throckmorton Airfield today.

The Didicars, described as the ultimate green car, proved particularly popular as women tested their reactions in a slalom challenge.

The cars are powered entirely by movement from the steering wheel - there are no pedals or motor.

They can reach speeds of more than six miles per hour on a slope.

Ian Amis, aged 43, one of the distributors for Didicars said: "It's about girls being boys. A lot of women want to drive HGVs and speed around in dumper trucks. That's the reason they have been so popular. Men were not allowed at this event and the women could go out and do whatever they wanted and they wanted to do the boy's stuff."

The day is expected to raise around £15,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
