WORCESTER rider Charlotte Harris has returned from the Pony Club National Championships as the only individual in the UK placed in both the open eventing and open showjumping with two clear rounds in each.

Charlotte, who is 21, lives in Fernhill Heath and is a member of Croome Pony Club. She qualified for the championships at the area competitions during the summer, where members of the 20 Area 9 branches competed against each other.

Successful riders from across the UK then gathered to compete at Nottingham.

Charlotte was one of only seven riders out of 53 to complete two clear rounds in the open show jumping. The eventing spanned two days and, after the first day's dressage and cross-country, Charlotte was in fifth position.

However, a very technical show-jumping course the following day had poles flying. But Charlotte once again jumped clear and saw her placing move up to joint first.

The final placing was decided on which of the two had completed their cross-country round closer to the optimum time. Because Charlotte had been faster she was further away, so she was placed second.

"I'm really pleased to have done so well. Crunchie did his very best for me," said Charlotte, now a physiotherapy student at Keele University.
