MOST people would hand £500 back into a bank if they found it at a cash dispenser according to a Worcester News poll.
Just under 80 per cent of those who took part in our online survey at www.worcesternews.co.uk said they would do the decent thing.
The poll was prompted by the story we ran in Monday's paper of Clive Smith who accidentally left the large sum of money behind after encountering difficulties while using the cash dispenser at Barclays, in Worcester's High Street.
He was saved from being heftily out of pocket by a cash machine user who promptly gave the money back in at the branch.
Our survey showed 79.5 per cent of the public would hand the money in with 20.5 being honest enough to admit they would pocket it.
Mr Smith, of Gresham Road, Dines Green, made an appeal to find the honest man. We have managed to trace him, but he does not want publicity. However, we have put him in touch with Mr Smith about his reward.
The good samaritan's daughter, who contacted the Worcester News said: "My father would not think of pocketing the money. He realised this could ruin someone's month and handed it in straight away."
