A COUNTYWIDE review of flooding issues may be carried out after a county councillor said lessons had not been learned from previous incidents.

Coun John Buckley wants to talk with the Bromsgrove, Malvern Hills, Redditch, Worcester, Wychavon and Wyre Forest district councils about the problems which faced the county during June and July.

The chairman of Worcestershire County Council's overview and scrutiny steering committee felt issues discussed at a recent cabinet meeting were covered in a scrutiny exercise carried out after the 2000 floods and presented in October 2001.

Coun Buckley said: "There were a number of recommendations made for many of the agencies involved in helping residents during flooding, and the County Council's then Director of Environmental Services suggested a number of actions that we could have carried out.

"I feel that the Cabinet meeting shows we didn't learn any lessons from 2000 and we're only just starting the process of becoming fully prepared for events that could become much more frequent."

Coun Buckley now intends to write to the scrutiny committees across the county to identify how agencies have worked together since October 2000 and what measures have or can be implemented to reduce the severe impact of changes in climate and weather patterns.
