A CAMPAIGN is being launched to raise awareness of library services in Worcestershire.

The six-month campaign will start at the end of this month and will see numerous initiatives taking place throughout Worcestershire for existing library users and also to welcome people who might not have been in their library before.

Worcestershire County Council has organised several events that will take place over the coming months.

A Book Doctor will be visiting supermarkets and shopping centres across the county answering book-related questions. The Book Doctor is qualified to answer individual book queries and can make recommendations on a range of reading material to suit individual requirements.

Libraries also offer a variety of other services. In addition to books, there are audio books, music videos and the latest DVDs. Customers can also browse newspapers and magazines or use the Internet, while a wide range of community information is also available.

Kathy Kirk, Worcestershire County Council's Strategic Libraries and Learning Manager, said: "This is an exciting time for our county's libraries. They are fantastic places for people of all ages to catch up in a friendly atmosphere, read a good book or to study, and we want to involve all residents, especially those who haven't been into their local library for a while.

"Libraries are changing and there are so many services available. We are hoping that during the next six months people will visit and that they will like what they find and become regular visitors. And if you visit and can suggest further improvements then we are interested in that too."

There are 22 libraries across the county - as well as the mobile service - and membership is free.
