Malvern Hills are tops for dog walking spots

THE Malvern Hills has been nominated as one of the country's top dog walking spots in a new poll that is sure to set tails wagging.

The famous slopes and stunning views over Worcestershire which inspired Sir Edward Elgar have been noted in a search for the UK's 21 top dog walks.

It is part of an initiative by Hill's Pet Nutrition to highlight the importance of mobility for the nation's dogs.

The company hopes that by drawing attention to the variety of prime dog walking sites across the nation they can help to ensure a healthier lifestyle for our four-legged friends.

Ian Rowat, director of the Malvern Hills Conservators - the organisation that manages the slopes - says he is delighted with the result.

"The Malvern Hills is a very popular place, not only for residents but also for many people from the surrounding areas.

"It's very nice to think that people have taken the time to vote and clearly have great affection for the hills."

"We welcome responsible dog owners, and urge people to be attentive that their dogs do not chase sheep. As long as they are kept under control a dog can be a great accompaniment to a walk."

Malvern Hills District Council's dog warden Paul Hine said it was no surprise the area had been nominated.

He said: "The views are brilliant and the fresh air is amazing. The area is very accessible for dog walkers of all abilities and is a great place to exercise your dog.

"I would, however, urge dog owners to be responsible as there is livestock on the hills and other walkers, so please make sure your dog is under control."
