SIR - I was interested in your comment on January 3. The problem in the UK today is that we do not stand together and stand up for ourselves.

Fuel prices are outrageous mainly because of the tax on it.

The French would have been rioting in the streets of their principal towns on far less erroneous issues. What will we do? Nothing.

This government has taxed us up to the hilt via stealth.

What did we do, nothing. Gordon Brown told us we would have a referendum on the treaty (constitution in another other guise).

What did we do? Nothing.

Regionalisation has begun of our fire and ambulance services and control centres. Lots of people supported the staff in their aim to keep it local' but the authorities went ahead anyway because they know we would not do anything about it! These are just some examples - I'm sure readers can and will list more. Apathy rules in the UK, I'm afraid.

We have lost the guts to challenge anything. We just roll over. All I can say is wake up people and smell the coffee before its too late!
