PEOPLE are being warned that so called Nottingham Knockers are out knocking doors in Worcester.

They have been going door to door in Northwick and the city centre yesterday and people are being warned to be careful of the scam.

Doorstep sellers, known as 'Nottingham Knockers', were spotted in Droitwich Road, Ombersley Road, Britannia Square and Park Avenue yesterday (Thursday).

According to Action Fraud, the door-to-door traders often try to sell items such as cheap household items.

They will sometimes claim to be on a rehabilitation scheme trying to find work and may have a false trading permit or other forms of ID.

However, they warned that Nottingham Knockers are not part of any recognised rehabilitation scheme as the government-backed Community Payback scheme does not involve door-to-door sales.

Action Fraud warns that the conmen will cover a number of streets and could be looking for a vulnerable victim they can scam.

Concerned residents say they feel vulnerable in their own homes when they are approached in this way.

Police say streets being targeted by the Nottingham Knockers often see an increase in distraction burglaries.

Previously, West Mercia Police has reminded people that traders selling door to door must have a pedlar’s certificate.

They added that people should not be intimidated into buying anything.

Suspicious activity can be reported to the police by calling 101.
