Where to get the best produce.

8:59am Monday 21st January 2008

Is your breakfast a quick slice of toast on the way out of the door?

Or maybe a cereal bar while you wait for the bus?

Well, why not make an extra effort this week, with a traditional farmhouse breakfast, using only the best ingredients from your local farmers' market.

Tomorrow sees the start of Farmhouse Breakfast Week, an annual campaign that emphasises the importance of eating a healthy breakfast every day.

This year's theme is A Great Start', and organisers are encouraging everyone to wake up to a balanced breakfast as part of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Nutritionists agree that a healthy breakfast is essential for starting the day. With a little planning - and some fantastic farmers' market ingredients - it is possible to enjoy a filling, nutritious breakfast, without having to set your alarm two hours early.

This week, why not dig into a delicious bacon sandwich on Monday morning? Follow our guide to make the most of this tasty treat:

Bacon SandwichPreparation time: five minutes.

Cooking time: five minutes.

Serves: one.

Two slices British back bacon.

One beefsteak tomato, sliced.

Two slices wholemeal bread.

Method

Put the bacon and tomato slices on a grill pan and place under a pre-heated grill. Grill for three minutes, turn the bacon and tomato slices and grill for a further two minutes.

Place the bread on a plate and pile the bacon and tomato in between the slices.

For the best bacon, head to today's Malvern Farmers' Market, where you can buy traditionally reared meat courtesy of Gordon Tudge and Eye Game Larder.

If you don't fancy the bacon, how about an omelette? Follow this recipe for a great start to the day:

Scrambled Omelette with Cherry TomatoesPreparation time: five minutes.

10g butter.

Two medium eggs, lightly beaten.

Six cherry tomatoes, quartered.

Heat a non-stick pan with the butter. Pour the eggs into the hot pan and allow to set for 1-1 minutes.

Stir or scramble briefly and add the tomatoes and cook for a further one to two minutes until just cooked.

Sprinkle with cheese and chives.

Fold the omelette and serve with the toasted bread. Season well and serve.

For the best eggs, head to the Akiki Organics' stall at today's Malvern Farmers' Market, where you can buy half a dozen free-range organic eggs, perfect for this meal. You will be able to taste the difference. Today's farmers' market is in Abbey Road, Malvern, from 9am to 2pm.
