LYPPARD Grange Primary School pupils from Years 2-6 donned with high-vis vests, protective gloves and armed with litter pickers set out to clean up the local community.

Each year group spent an hour picking up litter and in total 10 bin bags were filled with litter.

Fiona Tilley, Eco Lead at the school said that children at Lyppard Grange were very passionate about ‘all things eco’ and were very excited to be taking part in an event that would improve their local area.

“The children were proud of the amount of litter they collected but were also sad that so much had been dropped in the first place.

“They found a huge television dumped in a bush, which was too large for us to move, a parasol base and lots of glass bottles and beer and wine glasses amongst other items.”

The school would like to thank the parent and grandparent helpers who, along with school staff, accompanied the children on the litter pick and the Duckworth Trust and Worcestershire County Council who both lent the school litter picking equipment.

The school’s eco committee, comprising two children from each year group, applied for and was awarded a grant from the county council to buy their own litter-picking equipment.
