Whitehall profits from fuel prices

SIR - I heard Gordon Brown stating that he will be putting pressure on oil companies to reduce the price of fuel.
This is amazing as it is his government that is making the most from fuel at the moment (75 per cent of the price goes to the Government). It is the high price of fuel that is causing the rise in all other goods.
