THE dangers of building sites was the theme of a talk to Cubs and Scouts as part of the city is redeveloped.

Members of the Sainsbury's development team for the St John's regeneration project gave a talk on health and safety during the visit.

The fundamental Site Safety' talk delivered the message to stay away from the St John's construction site in Worcester.

Sainsbury's representatives spoke to the children about the potential dangers faced on a building site.

The group was also told about the importance of safety clothing for those who work on-site and were given a chance to dress up in hard hats and safety jackets.

Mark Ireland, Sainsbury's Property Project Manager, said: "Children are always keen to ask lots of very important questions and we hope that it will help keep them at a safe distance."

Group Scout Leader for the 2nd Worcester Scout Group, Paul Carpenter said: "Due to the location of the scout hut and its close proximity to the construction site, it is very important that Sainsbury's has taken the time to come and talk to the children.

"It is essential that they understand what is happening and learn about the potential dangers of a building site to prevent them from trying to explore it themselves.

"The talks have also helped the Cubs and Beavers earn their personal safety badges."

The development in St John's includes a new Sainsbury's foodstore, sports centre, youth centre, and improvements to the Christopher Whitehead Language College and is expected to be complete in summer 2009.
