TWO would-be thieves damaged a Co-op convenience store in Worcester during an attempted break-in overnight.

A third person was waiting in a car as the pair tried to break in overnight at the Co-op store on Canada Way, in Lower Wick, last night (Wednesday).

A staff member confirmed to the Worcester News that no access was gained during the attempted break-in.

A neighbouring shop worker said police had visited them to tell them what had happened and they claim officers said it was the fire doors that the vandal used to try and gain entry.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "On this occasion, damage has been caused but entry was not gained.

"The previous evening, Tuesday, March 14, two people were seen on a CCTV camera, loitering around the property for some time, between 10pm and around 11.15pm, with a third person arriving in a vehicle at the end of that time frame.

"The first two appear to have tried to pry their way in through the fire doors but again have been unsuccessful in their attempts."

Police also provided a description of all three men that were seen during the incident.

The spokesperson added: "These two appear to be men, one taller than the other, large built but also fat, he looked to be wearing a dark coloured long sleeve jacket and dark trousers, hood up and a black face covering.

"The second, shorter male also has a dark coloured jacket on with a rucksack, possibly wearing a cap, also with a dark coloured face covering.

"The third male arrives in a dark coloured hatchback type vehicle, potentially similar to a Mercedes A class/BMW 1 series/Ford Focus.

"He arrives at around 11.11pm, drives into the rear car park, checks the fire door and immediately leaves again.

"If anybody is able to provide any further information or relevant CCTV regarding these two incidents, we would really appreciate hearing from you."
