A village near Evesham is preparing to open its gardens to the public for a weekend in June.

This year’s Ashton under Hill Open Gardens takes place on June 10 and 11 with a theme of ‘The Pollinators’.

Organisers are using the popular event to highlight the depleted populations of bees and other insects that pollinate garden plants.

Children visiting with their families will even have the chance to collect the materials and build their own bug hotel, ready for pollinators to move in.

The wooden frames for the hotels have been made by Evesham’s Men in Sheds group.

This year’s Ashton under Hill Open Gardens will be the 44th year the village has opened its gardens to the public. Only 2020 and 2021 were missed because of the pandemic.

At least 20 gardens will be open, plus many other viewable front gardens.

Gardens will be open from 1pm to 6pm each day.

“As always there will be some new gardens that have never opened before, or at least ones that have not been open for a few years,” a spokesperson said.

“But equally there will be many old favourites, open again but always offering something new.

“There is always a wide variety of gardens and things to see and do in the friendly atmosphere of this beautiful Worcestershire village.

“Ashton is situated in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the shadow of Bredon Hill.

“Attractions, in addition to lovely gardens, include plant sales, garden products and craft stalls.

“If visitors want to take a break and take the weight off their feet after viewing beautiful gardens there are ice creams, champagne cream teas, sandwiches and a range of other delights.”

Tickets are £8 for adults, free for children, and can be bought on the day or in advance from www.ashtonopengardens.co.uk

Tickets are valid for both days and there is free parking in the village.
