A 19-YEAR-old feared to have gone into the River Severn remains missing.

Searches took place near Upton Bridge, in Upton, after the teenager went missing on Saturday morning (October 7).

On Sunday a West Mercia Police spokesperson provided an update telling us: "We are continuing the investigation.

"The teenager is still missing."

The call reported a 19-year-old man had entered the River Severn from the bridge.

Police search-trained officers, along with the police helicopter and firefighters were immediately deployed to the area to search for the missing man.

Inspector Andrew Standing, said: “Our search of the river will carry on today (Saturday) and our officers will continue to support the family as the search continues.

“Our officers are out speaking to the local community in Upton-upon-Severn this morning and we would like to thank them for their support and offers of help.”

A West Mercia Search and Rescue spokesperson said: "Specialist land and water teams are en route to the Upton on Severn area to locate a high-risk missing person."

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We attended to assist police with the initial search.

"We had a drone there, pumps and water first responders in boats. 

"We were there on the direction of the police. 

"We left the scene at 4am."

A Worcester News reporter went out to the scene on Saturday and saw West Mercia Search and Rescue vehicles and boats leaving Upton Marina at around 2.30pm. 

Locals told us there had been a police presence and helicopters in the area.

One resident said: "It is very sad".

On Sunday evening no further updates had been released by the emergency services.
