Passengers travelling with West Midlands Railway (WMR) are reminded to check their journeys before they travel over the Christmas period.

Due to the popularity of festive markets and planned engineering works, services are expected to be busy with some anticipated disruption in the lead up to the New Year.

Alterations include an updated timetable between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, with earlier service terminations on both days.

There will be no services running on any WMR route on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

On New Year’s Day, essential maintenance will result in buses replacing trains on select routes out of Birmingham New Street, with departures from Birmingham Moor Street.

A rail-replacement scheme will also be active between Worcester Shrub Hill, Kidderminster, and Bromsgrove on January 1.

Football fans heading for the Premier League Wolves-Chelsea football fixture at Molineux on Christmas Eve are urged to allow extra time for travel and to check any updates to their journeys on the day.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: "We expect our services to be busier than usual across the Christmas period and I advise passengers to check their journeys before setting out.

"Trains may be subject to short-notice changes and I would also urge passengers not to rely on late services on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve as last trains will be earlier than usual."
