A TALK on a historic battle in Worcestershire during the English Civil War is due to take place later this month.
Organised by The Battle of Worcester Society, the talk on the Battle of Ripple is due to take place in The Glass Room at The Hive in Sawmill Walk in Worcester on Tuesday, January 30.
The talk by Gregg Archer, a trustee of the Battlefields Trust and co-chair of its Mercia region, begins at 7.15pm.
The Battle of Ripple Field was part of a struggle between the royalists and parliamentarians for control of the Severn Valley in the first half of 1643.
After manoeuvrings by both armies on either side of the river through early April, the parliamentarian commander, Sir William Waller, assisted by Lt Col Edward Massey, Governor of Gloucester, advanced from Tewkesbury to try and capture the bridge at Upton and keep the royalists under Prince Maurice on the west side of the river.
Tickets are £7, £5 for BoWS members and £3 for students. Tickets are available from Tourist information at The Guildhall, online at the Battle of Worcester Society and the Commandery Museum Shop.
