A 20-YEAR-old man has been fined for kicking a cat.

Richard Loveridge, of Stonebow Road, Drakes Broughton, Pershore, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court. 

Magistrates heard Loveridge caused the suffering to a cat named Fefe on June 28 last year in Kidderminster.

The charge he admitted reads: "Cause unnecessary suffering to a protected animal - namely the cat, by  an act, namely kicking, and you knew or ought reasonably to have known that the act would have that effect or be likely to do so."

Loveridge was given a one-year community order which includes 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days. 

The defendant was fined £40 and ordered to pay £50 in compensation. 

Loveridge was not ordered to pay costs but was ordered to pay £114 victim surcharge. 

The defendant's offer to pay the £204 total at a rate of £20 per month was accepted by magistrates.

The case was heard on February 27.
