Two footbridges over the canal in Droitwich have been undergoing major refurbishments in recent months.

Work being undertaken by Worcestershire County Council started on the Little Hill Court and King George Playing Fields footbridges in January, to replace the old worn wooden decks with brand-new composite decking.

The Little Hill Court footbridge is scheduled to re-open this month, with the King George Fields footbridge expected to be open again in May.

The works have taken place at this time of year to take advantage of much lower use of the canal.

Councillor Mike Rouse, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “We know these footbridges are extremely well used, so it’s great that these works are pushing along nicely, and people will soon be able to benefit from the refurbishments to them.

“We’ve worked closely with the local Councillor, Richard Morris on this, and it highlights the fantastic work that’s taking place across the county on projects that make a huge difference to people’s lives.”

While the footbridges have been closed, a temporary pontoon bridge has been in place to enable continued crossing of the canal.
