Care home residents have been getting in the Easter spirit after enjoying a visit from a six-week-old lamb.

Residents at the Sanctuary Care's Regent Residential Care Home in St John's, Worcester met LuLu, who lives at a nearby farm.

The home is a member of Sanctuary Care, which has been delivering care for older people for over 25 years.

The not-for-profit care home arranged the animal therapy session to evoke fond memories, reduce stress, and improve social interaction within the home.

LuLu was greeted by residents, and staff, and given a guided tour of the home, courtesy of the care home's staff.

This visit proved particularly delightful to 99-year-old resident Joan Evans, who grew up on a farm herself.

Unsurprisingly she was pretty adept at feeding the baby lamb with a bottle of milk.

Fellow resident Enid Rea, 98, also shared her joy, saying: "I loved seeing the lamb.

"It was a lovely experience and brought back lots of memories of when I used to live on a farm.

"I only wish the lamb could have stayed a little longer."

Julie Wattis, Deputy Manager at Regent Residential Care Home, encapsulated the joy this visit brought: “We know that spending time with animals has many therapeutic advantages for older people, particularly for those living with dementia, helping to lower stress and encourage social interaction and engagement.

"It was amazing to see the smiles on our residents’ faces as they interacted with the baby lamb.

"The visit certainly put a spring in everyone’s step."
