As you can imagine, it was never going to be long before my words turned to cricket, well, with the world cup about to start in the Caribbean what else would I be writing about? It is reasonable to assume that we all want England to win, and what chances have they got?

They have probably got as much chance of winning it as all the other teams, as i think this world cup is about the most open competition of its type for many of year. there are of course a few teams who would expect to win it along with England.
Australia, India, South Africa, Pakistan, the hosts themselves, and a team that I think may be the dark horses this time around - New Zealand.
They may appear to be a bit unauthodox, but they do produce the goods, and they have had a run of impressive results of late, including claimimg the scalp of Australia.
I am sure that with the climate in the West Indies we are in for a thrilling competition, and those who go there will have a tremendous time with great hospitality.
Those, like me who are not travelling can enjoy it on TV - it will be on at very good times for those of us who go to work as most evenings there will be some play - great.
Spare a thought for the unsung heroes in this world of cricket - the administrators, scorers and umpires, without whom the great game would not survive. May the best team win!
