March has been a month of some particularly tricky weather to play rugby in, to say the least. Going into a series of games, Sale Sharks – away, Leicester Tigers – home, Leeds Carnegie – Home and Gloucester – home I would have been happy with getting 7 points, 3 losing bonuses and a win. Well it just goes to show how un-ambitious I was!! We have ended up with a glorious run of; played 4 won 3 drawn 1.

The whole month capped off by beating Gloucester, with Thinus Delport (Ex Gloucester) scoring the winning try in the last minute of the game was just incredible. Set up in the first half by Sam Tuitupou blasting through the visitor’s defence in the first 5 minutes of the game, converted by Shane Drahm, and then Miles Benjamin scoring after a scything run by Marcel Garvey. I was sat in the East Stand muttering “What’s going on?” with a huge grin on my face. As you would expect from a team as good as the Cherry and Whites, they came back to score 2 converted trys, one from the Volcano and the other from Rory Lawson, before the end of the 1st half to go into the lead 12- 14. Marcel Garvey had to be taken off on a stretcher, after Big Les’ try, as he had been knocked out cold trying to prevent the score.

The game stayed at 12 – 14 until the 79th minute when all hell broke loose as Thinus grabbed Miles overhead pass and dived in for the try! Sixways erupted, total mayhem! Chants of Warriors, Warriors, Warriors gave way to Thinus, Thinus , Thinus, which he rightly milked for all he was worth! Shane Drahm had no hope of getting quiet for his attempt a the conversion kick and him missing it wasn’t too much of a disappointment as the referee, Sean Davey, put his finger to his ear piece and then blew for full time, cue for more delirious scenes of jubilation, all tempered with the worry about the condition of Marcel. We found out later that he had been taken to hospital for precautionary scans, but was now conscious thankfully.

So at the end of March the Warriors are 14 points clear of Leeds (may only be 10 if Leeds beat Sarries) and only 3 points behind The Falcons.

The next game is a European Challenge Cup ¼ final against Montpellier and it’s my birthday! Like the Gloucester game, I think that the Sunday will be dominated by a bit of a hangover! And hopefully talk of another Warriors win.
