Meet four young people who have made a difference

Luke Kurkus. Luke Kurkus.

FOUR young people have been recognised for their acts of generosity, displays of community spirit or acts of outstanding courage that have made a difference to other people’s lives.

The youngsters have all received Good Citizen awards from West Mercia Constabulary. The awards recognise young people aged 18 and under who have made an outstanding contribution to their community in the last year.

Those in your Worcester News area to receive the awards were: Samantha Spencer, aged 14 Samantha, who is from Droitwich, and a pupil at Droitwich High School, has been a volunteer and fund-raiser at St Richard’s Hospice for several years, although she suffers from ill health herself.

Sally Evans, aged 16Sally, from Whitbourne, and a pupil at Queen Elizabeth Humanities College, was nominated for the effort she has put in to raising money for the Breast Cancer Haven since her mother was diagnosed in 2007.

Luke Kurkus, aged 13 Luke, from Evesham and a pupil at Blackminster Middle School, has devoted many hours and great patience to supporting his friend who has major health problems.

Daniel Postans, aged 15 Daniel, from Bradley Green, Redditch, and a pupil at Droitwich High School, has been a St Richard’s Hospice volunteer for about eight years.

Ten nominees – two from each division – will now go forward for the force’s Good Citizen of the Year award, which will be presented at a gala award evening hosted by Chief Constable Paul West at the force’s headquarters, Hindlip Hall, Worcester, on Thursday, October 9.

The young people who will go forward from North and South Worcestershire to the gala award ceremony in October include Samantha Spencer and Daniel Postans .

All those shortlisted for the Good Citizen of the Year award will receive a prize and £50 in cash. The young person judged to have made the most significant contribution to their community will be named Good Citizen of the Year, and will received an extra £100 in cash to be shared equally with a charity of their choice, as well as a trophy.

What's all this, then?

Four teenagers "done well" - and not the yobs getting the publicity? Brilliant news!

High time more of this was made public!

I know "the Devil has the best tunes", but why should we always dance to the yobs instructions and songs?

Give the good guys a chance and some more publicity, please!

Goodness knows - we all need cheering up!
