A FORMER Worcester Sixth Form College student has raised over £8,000 for Oxfam's China Earthquake Appeal.

Wailo Li organised fundraisers in both Birmingham and Manchester Wing Yip supermarkets and Chinatowns.

The fundraisers saw young locals, as well as families, eager to do what they could to help the victims of the devastating earthquake in China that happened in May.

"The fundraisers have been an amazing success and it has been a great team effort- well done everyone who was involved,” said 23-year-old Miss Li.

“I'm just really happy that we could do something to help the victims, many of whom are children. The fundraisers could not have happened without the help of Mr Wing Yip, so I thank him and his staff for helping us with the fundraisers, both in Birmingham and Manchester."

Stargold Printers in Kidderminster printed all the campaign posters free of charge and Stourport High School is donating the funds from its non-school uniform day.

Miss Li, who lives in Stourport On Severn, has urged people to keep donating for the long-term rehabilitative and restorative work for the earthquake victims and their affected families.

“You can donate online, in any bank or via the Oxfam donation box in our takeaway; New Star in Spennells, Kidderminster,” she said.

"You can help change someone else's life for the price of a pint."

The funds raised have already been sent directly to Oxfam Hong Kong to assist with immediate aid.
