MALVERN’S new luxury spa hotel and health club, due to open at the end of this month, could be the first of several to be built across Britain.

Colwall developer John Williams, who is behind the £7.5 million MalvernSpa project, has revealed that he is so pleased with the way the development has come together that he is thinking of creating more complexes on a similar theme in different parts of the country.

The spa has generated more than 80 jobs and is expected to boost the local economy.

Mr Williams came up with the idea for a luxury spa hotel and fitness/wellness centre about seven years ago after gaining inspiration from European spa resorts. After a rather drawn out planning process the development started about a year ago and the builders are now applying the finishing touches to it. The MalvernSpa, on Enigma Business Park, has 33 boutique-style hotel bedrooms, a gastro-style brasserie, a huge fitness centre, connecting indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pools using Malvern spring water, and will offer a range treatments from Rasul mud therapy to a herb sauna.

“It has been a complicated development with all the different features but I am very pleased with the build. I think it is looking better by the day. The original vision has changed a bit but I think it does everything for everybody. It is the biggest project I have ever done,” said Mr Williams, who says he is an artist and designer at heart.

He has previously worked on prestigious residential developments in places such as Belgravia, London.

“We are planning to do more. I am hoping to roll it out to about half a dozen in places where we can do it on a large scale.”

He said the development had been a huge learning experience but he had a great team working with him.

“It has been built with love,” said Mr Williams.
