FIRMS in Malvern have pulled out all the stops to put on a spectacular show for this year’s Malvern in Bloom traders contest.

The displays showed people had put in lots of effort and let their creative talents flow, according to the judges who had a hard job to select the winners.

Chairman of the Malvern in Bloom steering group and judge Councillor John Jordan said: “The number of entries was about the same as last year. The standards, we felt, were even higher this year than in previous years. It was not an easy task to pick out the winners because so many were so good.

“The theme of ‘local roots’ was capable of being interpreted in so many ways.

“There are some unique ideas out there. It was absolutely super.”

The competition was in three sections relating to different areas of Malvern – Great Malvern, Malvern Link and Barnards Green – and was judged by Coun Jordan, Malvern Town Council chairman Coun Caroline Bovey and former florist and member of Barnards Green Traders Association Jane Hunt.

“We wanted to show appreciation of the fact that three separate communities have all joined in and done their bit,” said Coun Jordan.

The winners for Great Malvern are: Overall winner, Colemans (artists materials and stationery); Gold certificate, Lyttelton House Gallery (picture shop); Silver certificate, Simply Sewing (sewing shop).

The winners for Malvern Link are: Overall winner, Harpers Bazaar (outdoor clothing and equipment); Gold certificate, Age Concern (charity shop); Silver certificate, Littlewoods Clearance store.

The winners for Barnards Green are: Overall winner, Just So (jewellery shop); Gold certificate, St Richard’s Hospice (charity shop); Silver certificate, The Toy Corner (toy shop).
