Soap stars battle it out in charity football match

10:10pm Friday 4th July 2008

SOAP stars from hit TV series Hollyoaks face a tough challenge in a charity football match against our local lads.

Actors from the Channel 4 show will line up against a Worcester Allstars team when they play their match at St George’s Lane, Worcester.

The teams will battle it out in aid of Worcester-based national charity Leukeamia CARE on Saturday, July 12, in a game that is expected to draw crowds of more than 3,000 people.

The event is organised by the charity in association with Wyvern FM, Bushwackers and Sin nightclubs.

Leukeamia CARE’s Gemma Harris said: “We organised a similar event between Coronation Street and Hollyoaks stars two years ago that was incredibly successful and the people of Worcester have been anxiously awaiting a repeat performance.

“We’ve already sold many of the tickets and, with only a couple of weeks to go, we are encouraging anyone who wants to have the chance to see their favourite soap celebrities perform to buy their tickets quickly to avoid disappointment.” Due to filming schedules, the Hollyoaks squad has yet to be announced. The Worcester Allstars team will be captained by Bob Marley, owner of mobile phone firm The Phone Works.

The team also includes Worcester City chairman Dave Boddy and Wyvern FM Breakfast DJ Paul Kershaw. On the big day, the gates open at 1.30pm and the match kicks off at 3pm.

Tickets, costing £5-10, are on sale at raise4leukaemia.org.uk, on 08455 213456 and from Worcester City Football Club, Bushwackers and Sin.
