A schoolboy from Malvern who took up Irish dancing a year ago has been nominated for an outstanding achievement award. Kieran Young, aged 11, won two gold and two silver medals at the 2008 World Irish Dancing Championships in Belfast earlier this year. He is now competing against two primary schools for the West Midlands Folk Federation accolade. His mother Lisa Warburton is thrilled by his success, but says: “Where it came from, we do not know. He and his older sister Laura decided they would go along to a dance school and try it out. He has taken to it like a duck to water. He just can’t keep his feet still. If we go shopping he is dancing down the aisles. I think his ambition is to be the next Michael Flatley.” The WMFF awards are based on the number of votes received before the closing date of noon on Monday, July 28. To vote for Kieran, visit wmff.org.uk/ WMFF%20 Award.shtml. Votes can also be cast at folk festivals in Bromsgrove, Warwick and Alcester during the summer. Picture by Simon Rogers. 27442601
