THE humble potato became the focus of a number of activities at Pershore High School to mark the international year of the potato. Year eight pupils looked at how potatoes and food in general has such a fundamental role in modern lives. They also studied the Irish potato famine, food miles and growth rates in history, geography, maths and food technology lessons.

A school spokesman said: “Pupils then completed a day of activities based around potatoes and food culminating in a showcase in the afternoon including film, dance, presentations, displays and information on caring for the environment through our food consumption.” Tutor groups also took part in a potato growing competition to see which group could produce the highest yield. The potatoes were then used by school chef Andy Taynton. Sam Gardner and Zeno McDonald are pictured with their classmates. Picture by John Anyon. 29454201

After I stopped laughing and then frowning about it, - I realised that his could well stand them in good stead, with the forthcoming food shortage!

Although, how you "culminate in a potato dance.." I don't quite know! - by "being a bit starchy and keeping your eyes peeled" I suppose!

...and you would need to be well and truly "Smashed"!
