Continental food spices up streets

9:00pm Friday 18th July 2008

A CONTINENTAL market brought an explosion of scents, sound and colour to the streets of Worcester.

Shoppers could have been forgiven for thinking they were in Paris or Pisa rather than Worcester as a French and Italian market opened on the High Street.

Fresh cheeses and fruit, olives, sausages, vinegars and pastries brought the best of Normandy, Picardy, Auvergne and Brittany in France and Pisa in Italy to the people of Worcester yesterday.

For those who did not get a chance to browse the 20 stalls the market is open again today between 9am and 5.30pm and between 10am and 4pm tomorrow.

The event has been organised by VistWorcester after a successful French market in March which helped bring more interest to the High Street.

Angie O’Neill, town centre manager for Visit orcester, said: “It’s for locals and tourists and we hope they make the most of it by supporting us over the weekend. They can be sure they won’t be disappointed.”

The event was also organised by Glenn Dudley, who is British but now lives near Dieppe, France.
