Flash flooding hits county

POCKETS of flash flooding have hit parts of Worcestershire causing problems on the county's roads.

As heavy rain, thunder and lightning swept across region three cars were involved in a collision on the A422 near Upton Snodsbury about 8.15pm.

Firefighters, police, and paramedics are currently in attendance at the scene and the road has been closed off in both directions.

Meanwhile, residents in Worcester have been reporting isolated incidents of flash flooding.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Alec Mackie said: "There was a property in Vincent Road, off Wyld's Lane, which had sewage coming up into the grounds of the property.

"We called out Severn Trent to sort that one out.

"There was also another in Northwick Road, off Ombersley Road, where there was flooding in the property.

"We used a mini ejector pump on that."

Police in Worcester said they had also received "one or two" calls regarding flash flooding.

A spokesman said: "There was a report of flash flooding in Astwood Road near the railway bridge, and The Butts near the Cattlemarket where there was a drain coming up but it is passable with care."

The drains on New Road near Worcestershire County Cricket Club also failed to cope with the heavy rain that was reminiscent of last year's summer floods which caused devastation to thousands of residents and businesses.
