EVEN film fans are catered for during the Worcester Festival.

The Swan Theatre is screening 11 critically-acclaimed films throughout this month.

The movies were specially selected by festival organisers to appeal to young and old throughout the city.

The film season began earlier this week with Bee Movie, an animation voiced by Jerry Seinfield and Renee Zellweger; John La Bouchardiere’s operatic romance The Full Montiverdi, and a one off screening of British flick Ruby Blue, which included a question and answer session with film writer and director Jan Dunn.

On Saturday, the Swan will host a Polish film evening, celebrating the best of Poland’s cinema and encouraging natives living in Worcestershire to get involved.

The evening, which runs from 8pm to 1am, includes a screening of the critically-acclaimed psychological drama Pregi.

Chris Jaeger, festival director, said: “We’ve put a lot of thought into the selection of films we are showing this year and we’ve expanded the range so that we appeal to even more people. As well as films for children and adults of all ages, we’ve also had the Midland History Film, which is a selection of archive clips of Worcestershire from days gone by, the Full Monteverdi – a classical musical film, and Polish film night where we’re showing three Polish language films and serving Polish nibbles.

“We’re delighted that every year we can go a little bit further to appeal to even more people in the community.”

Award-winning animated film, Spirited Away, will be screened on Tuesday, and was written and directed by famed animator Hayao Miyazaki.

Spirited Away won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2003 and is the highest-grossing film in Japanese history.

Other films for movie fans to look forward to include Goya’s Ghost, which tells of the Spanish painter Francisco Goya and stars Hollywood A-lister Natalie Portman; children’s adventure Bridge to Terabithia; Academy Award-winning German drama The Counterfeiters; comedy-drama Moliere about the famed French playwright; and the 2007 remake of classic thriller Sleuth starring Jude Law and Michael Caine.

To book tickets to any film call the festival box office on 01905 611427.
